Can Expats become NZ citizens? 

Once you have successfully moved to New Zealand, it is important to know whether there is an option to become a citizen. Foreign workers holding permanent residency status can apply for citizenship provided that they have been a resident of New Zealand for at least 5 years, and only travelled out of New Zealand for a short amount of time each year. It means, before submitting your application for citizenship, you should have been staying or present in NZ with a resident visa status for a total of at least 1,350 days. That is at least 240 days in each of those 5 years.
