Chefs and Cooks

“The belly rules the mind. And nothing brings people together like good food.”

Having a profession that develops your creativity and makes people happy is the best job we could ever have. It feels good seeing genuine smiles from your customers letting you know that they love what you do.

To become a Chef is one of the amazing professions out there where real passion is the key to success.

“A recipe has no soul, and only the Cook can bring soul to the recipe.”

What are the skills to become a great Chef?

  1. Genuine Passion / Commitment - Someone who has a strong desire to use his culinary expertise to create good food.
  2. Creativity - Can make valuable dishes.
  3. Time Management - Can organize and plan kitchen activities to meet the demands of diners.
  4. Intuition - Can sense what the right decision to make addressing unexpected situations in the kitchen.
  5. Detail-oriented - Can pay close attention even to small particulars in cooking. The quality of dishes prepared is the priority.
  6. Good leadership - Who can communicate properly with kitchen staffs. Who can inspire, motivate people and can take ownership of the task.

If cooking is your passion and you love good food, why not make it a career?

Major medical and life insurance, paid days off, sick leaves, vacation leaves and retirement plans are just some of the benefits. When you work as a chef, you would never experience a dull moment. “It is always busy in the kitchen”. You work comfortably since you don’t have to wear formal attire with necktie or ribbon tied around your neck.

Like any other jobs, chefs also face some challenges at work. What are the challenges faced by Chefs at work?

  1. Some say it is a physically demanding job. It is true that it’s always busy in the kitchen, but if you are passionate and you love what you are doing, you will never feel demotivated. Tired yes, but happy.
  2. Work-life balance. Since it is a physically demanding job, you can’t often hang out with your friends after your duty. You will be saving your energy for tomorrow’s activity. That’s why most Chefs are given paid days off. You get to hangout with your family and friends during weekends and you are paid.
  3. Culinary training, work experiences and experience certificates required to move up. There is a saying that there is really no easy way to move up. There maybe those who can without any experience or trainings but that is often the reason why HR managers later realize they made a wrong decision. A great Chef is always backed up with exemplary skills and experience.
